Kyerematen pledges to fight corruption

The Leader and Founder of Movement for Change (M4C), Alan Kyerematen, has reiterated his stance on corruption, describing it as a ‘cancer’ that has hindered the nation’s progress.

He said: “The fight against corruption starts at the top,” adding that “I have never been corrupt and will never be corrupt. My record is open for every Ghanaian to scrutinise.”

Mr Kyerematen, who is on a campaign tour of the Bono Region, said this in an interview with the media in Sunyani, the regional capital. He reiterated that his stance on corruption was not mere rhetoric but one that would ensure transparency and accountability at all levels of governance when the good people of Ghana voted for him to serve them.

Integrity

Mr Kyerematen, who has expressed his intentions of contesting in the December 7 polls as an independent presidential candidate, emphasised the urgent need for a leader who does not only embody integrity but also enforces it among the ranks of government.

“We need a leader who is not just free from corruption but one who will have zero tolerance for any form of corruption within his administration,” he asserted, saying he represented the hope of many Ghanaians who longed for genuine change.

Mr Kyerematen, while campaigning under his “Great Transformational Plan”, proposed that he would consolidate all anti-corruption institutions into a single, formidable body.

“This new entity would be led by a corruption Czar, endowed with independent prosecutorial powers, free from the influence of the Attorney General. This Czar will have the authority to prosecute anyone, including the president,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to impartial justice.

He said he envisaged an active role for the citizenry in his crusade against corruption by encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities and providing incentives for information aimed at fostering a culture of accountability.

“Lifestyle audits of government officials will be routine,” he explained, “to ensure that no one lives beyond their legitimate means.” Mr Kyerematen pledged robust support to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the fight against corruption.

“CSOs will be empowered to play their roles effectively, ensuring that the government and its appointees adhere strictly to the law,” he promised.

Traders bank

Mr Kyerematen, who visited the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani to interact with traders, reiterated his earlier pledge to establish a Traders Bank to provide essential capital to traders to expand their businesses, invest in new opportunities and enhance their livelihoods.

He also promised to build modern markets to facilitate domestic trade, adding that those markets would include clinics and schools for children of traders as well as modern car parks to ease transportation.
