Ahead of the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the five aspirants are to sign a Peace Pact to commit them to uphold the sanctity, integrity of the contest and maintain party unity.
In line with that, the Presidential Elections Committee of the NPP would meet with the Presidential aspirants to discuss the roadmap, guidelines and assurance of fairness and transparency; the presentation of the provisional voter register or album to the aspirants.
The chairman of the committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, who announced this at a press conference last Thursday, said the committee would also meet the National Council of Elders and former Presidents to ensure credibility and inclusiveness prior to the signing of the peace pact.
He stressed the importance of fostering unity and transparency throughout the electoral process.
He explained that the nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise, encompassing all constituencies and external branches, had been concluded.
He said during the process, some minor IT-related and clerical discrepancies were identified, including omissions, misspelt names and inaccurate entries for voter ID and telephone numbers.
“These are purely administrative in nature and do not in any way affect the integrity or credibility of the voter register. I am pleased to report that all such issues are currently being rectified.
“Additionally, the exercise confirmed reports of some delegates who have passed on, as well as others who have forfeited their membership pursuant to Article 3(9)(1) of the Party Constitution,” he said.
Mr Osei Owusu noted that in the interest of full transparency and fairness, all aspirants would be furnished with the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
“Two weeks will be provided for verification, observations and feedback before finalising the register,” he stated.
He said members who had forfeited their membership under Article 3(9)(1) shall be excluded from the process and shall not participate or vote in the presidential election on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Concerns
Mr Osei Owusu, who is a former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said there would be bi-weekly meetings with accredited representatives of the aspirants to address concerns and maintain open communication.
He urged party supporters, stakeholders and media outlets to exercise restraint and cautioned against the circulation of unverified information that could undermine confidence in the electoral process.
He reaffirmed the Committee’s readiness to deliver a free, fair and transparent primary election.
