Our investment in education is unparalleled — President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has questioned the genuineness of the campaign promise of the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, to revamp vocational and technical education in the country and make it free for all if he becomes president again.

He wondered how a government that failed to make any investment in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) in the last eight years that it was in power would now turn around to make it better and free.

He, therefore, asked Ghanaians to compare the promises being made by the NDC with its action while it was in power and determine for themselves if the NDC was a party that could be trusted.

President Akufo-Addo said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had demonstrated its support for education and TVET in particular through its deeds and actions.

Inauguration

He made those remarks at the inauguration of the Methodist Technical Institute in the Kwadaso Municipality as part of his working tour to the Ashanti Region.

He said the government's investment in education had been unparalleled in the history of the country, with the free SHS being the most significant one.

President Akufo-Addo said the government would continue to invest in human resources that would spur the development of the country and called on Ghanaians to renew his mandate come December 7, 2020.

Records

He said although he did not have any record as President and did not have much to show aside from his stewardship as a Minister of State and politician, Ghanaians could now compare his works since he won the presidential election on December 7, 2016, with his contenders and make their own assessment.

President Akufo-Addo said he was grateful to the people of Kwadaso, particularly the Agric Nzemahene, Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafoh, for pledging to build a modern market at Agric-Nzema in the Kwadaso municipality as his support to complement the good work of the government.

Agric-Nzemahene

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Agric-Nzema, Nana Ayeboafoh, commended the NPP government for its development works and said the municipality had had its fair share even though there was a lot more to be done.
Nana Ayeboafoh, who is known for his philanthropic works, is also the father of the Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere East, Ms Mavis Nkansah Boadu.

Related development

In a related development, President Akufo-Addo also inspected ongoing construction works on the first Creative Arts Secondary School at Kwadaso.

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Coordinator of Utong Engineering, one of the two construction firms working on the project, Mr Daniel Korang, said most of the basic structures such as the construction of the offices for the principal and the vice principal, dormitories, staff accommodation, auditorium and dining hall buildings were almost complete. - #GhanaVotes2020
