GT Accra PNC gears up for 2016 elections
The Greater Accra Regional branch of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has held a forum for its executive to discuss the future of the party towards the 2016 general elections.

The event attracted party faithful, sympathisers and grass-roots members within and outside the metropolis.
It was also used to address and resolve pertinent issues that may hinder the party from capturing power in 2016.
Mistakes by NEC
Addressing participants, the 2012 flag bearer of the party, Mr Hassan Ayariga, pointed out that a lot of mistakes had been committed by the national executive which needed to be changed.
He, for instance, said that it was wrong for the party’s constitution to hand over the leadership position to the chairman of the party.
That, according to him, stripped him off the power he hitherto had, and added that it did not allow him to be able to deliver on his promises to the party.
“When power is given to the wrong people, wrong things happen,” he emphasised.
Mr Ayariga bemoaned the attitude of members who refused to vote for him as well as the parliamentary candidates of the party.

Addressing grievances
The flag bearer described as inappropriate and an unfair practice on the part of members who refused to exhaust all the executive powers available to seek redress for their grievances.
“As a member of this party, if you fail to exhaust all the executive powers available to seek for redress for any grievances you may have, the constitution says you must be expelled,” he added.
Mr Ayariga also used the opportunity to dismiss claims that he had embezzled funds which belonged to the party, and added, “if you think any car I’m using belongs to the party, present document to that effect and come for it.”
He indicated that the PNC was battling with a lot of challenges and called on party members to forgive each other and work as a team and forge ahead to capture power in 2016.
Mr Ayariga said he was appreciative of all the efforts made by the few that supported him during the 2012 elections.
National Organiser
The National Organiser, Mr Emmanuel Wilson, described some members of the party as sycophants who pretended to be interested in the affairs of the party but were not.
He noted that most of the members were busily campaigning for the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
That, according to Mr Wilson, could potentially shrink and sink the party, adding, “one of the things that sank the Limann administration was sycophancy.”
He further called on party members to eschew indiscipline and focus on projecting the interest of PNC.
Way forward
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Mr Bala Salihu Maikankan, added his voice to the call on party members to be committed to the interest of the party.
According to him, the way forward was for the national executive to go on a familiarisation tour across the country to revamp and energise the structures before the next national delegates congress.
Mr Maikankan added that there was the need for a unified national executive front within the party for a strong voice and stance on issues affecting the party.
