Muslim Council urges Prez to focus on national challenges
The Muslim Council of Ghana has asked President John Dramani Mahama to place premium on finding lasting solutions to the current economic challenges facing the nation.
In the view of the council, it will be in the President’s own interest if he allocates much focus on national economic challenges rather than get involved in every issue, including “the Hajj Operations.”
In a statement signed by the President of the Council, Mr Ustaz Ibrahim Bature Barakuda, and General Secretary, Ostaz Meisuna Sulemana, the council pointed out that the President would not be able to defend every little issue he was engaged in.
According to the Council, the President had a lot of national issues to deal with, and therefore did not have to interfere in issues that could be handled by particular satekeholders. The council, therefore, appealed to the President to stop meddling in Muslim affairs, especially with respect to the Hajj operations.
The council also alleged that the name of the office of the National Chief Imam was being used in Hajj-related matters wrongly and it did not augur well for the good name of the chief Imam.
In the light of this, among other issues, the council stated that it had advised the Federation of Muslim Council to suspend its proposal to sponsor special prayers for the nation at Holy Makkahm Arafat and Madina.
