NPP youth wing in Walewale asked to remain calm

The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, has appealed to the youth wing of the party at Walewale to remain calm.

This follows a riot by some NPP youth in the Walewale Constituency to express their displeasure over the appointment of a new District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.

The irate party youth, who were incensed by the announcement of a new DCE for the West Mamprusi District, went on the rampage last Friday evening at Walewale, the district capital, destroying some property of the party in the process.

The angry youth attacked the constituency office of the party and the Bawumia Youth Centre, destroying property in the two offices to protest against the nomination of a new DCE for the area.

Mr Saaka Sayuti was earlier nominated as the DCE for the West Mamprusi Assembly but was rejected by members of the assembly on three separate occasions and was not re-nominated for the position following the announcement of 26 nominees for the positions of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) for 15 assemblies.

Appeal

Addressing the media in Tamale on the issue last Saturday, Mr Naabu appealed to the NPP youth at Walewale to remain calm as he took steps to resolve the matter amicably.

According to him, the party does not want what happened at Savelugu to repeat itself at Walewale.
