Police administration and peace council commend Akyem Wenchi residents for peaceful Akwatia by-election

The Police Administration and the National Peace Council have commended the people of Akyem Wenchi for cooperating with the police to ensure an incident free Parliamentary by-election at the Akwatia Constituency.

Akyem Wenchi used to be a flashpoint in previous elections.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno accompanied by members of the Police Management Board and the Deputy National Director of Conflict Management and Resolution of the National Peace Council, Mr Frank Wilson Bodza made the commendation after touring the 10 polling stations at Wenchi on Tuesday.

The IGP said he was happy that no nasty incident happened and urged them to sustain the spirit during the counting of the votes.

He stated that all the 25 Police Regional Police Commanders in the country had joined the 5,500 police personnel deplored to monitor the by-election to promote peace and ensure successful polls.

Mr Yohuno advised registered voters, election monitors and members of political parties not to entertain any fears of intimidation but to go about their duties peacefully to ensure incident free polls acceptable to both the victor and the vanquished.

Mr Bodza on his part, was also elated that the by-election had so far been peaceful and admonished the people to sustain the spirit during the counting of votes.

Mr Bodza was full of praise for IGP Yohuno for providing more police personnel and the needed logistics to ensure peaceful election.

The by-election has attracted the top hierarchy of both the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
