The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Edward Adjaho, on Tuesday referred the nominations of three deputy ministers-designate to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for consideration and report.

That was after he had read a letter from President John Dramani Mahama informing the House of the nominations.

"In accordance with Article 79 Clause one of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, I wish to inform you that I have nominated for consideration by Parliament the following deputy ministers designate," the letter reads.

A former Executive Director of the West Africa Peace Building Network (WANEP), Mr Emmanuel Bombande, has been nominated as a Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The other nominees are a former District Chief Executive of Upper Manya, Mr Joseph Agmor Tetteh, and the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta North, Mr John Oti Bless, as deputy ministers for the Eastern Region and Local Government and Rural Development Ministry respectively.

Interesting remarks

The Minority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said inasmuch as the nomination of deputy ministers was important, it was crucial for the President to nominate a substantive minister for the Ministry of Power.

He indicated that since the resignation of the Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor, some months ago, there had not been any replacement for such an important ministry.

He said considering the challenges facing the power sector, "it would be prudent to have a substantive minister for the Ministry of Power."

But the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi, said the Minority Leader should rather be concerned with happenings within his party.

He referred to the popular saying "de wo fie asem", which means ‘mind your own business’, to support his position.

"I think that he has raised a good point but what I want to tell him is that there is a popular saying 'de wo fie asem", he said.

At that stage, the Speaker indicated that if the two of them were not leaders, "I would have ruled the two of you out of order."
