The journey to the confirmation last Thursday at Funsi had not been rosy as in the first round ballot on January 3, this year, he polled 20 votes when he needed 23 votes to attain the two-thirds votes to win his confirmation.

The Presiding Member, Mr Kuri Suglo, therefore, adjourned the meeting for a brief period of one week. When they returned amid tight security for the second round poll, the membership of 10 government appointees of the assembly was revoked and replaced by another set of new members who were sworn in immediately by the district magistrate.

The assembly then went through the registration and ballot before confirming the President's nominee by the 26 votes with 10 members still not voting in his favour.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Abudu thanked the chiefs and people of Wa East District for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work with them for the realisation of the better Ghana agenda programmes and policies of the government.

He called for unity so that together they could forge ahead to confront the numerous challenges facing them such as illiteracy, poverty and diseases.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Ephraim Avea Nsor, later appealed to the assembly members to embrace and give Mr Abudu the necessary support and co-operation, since the district was one of the deprived areas that needed a leader to assist it to tackle its development programmes with the necessary dispatch. He later expressed his gratitude for the peaceful manner in which the confirmation was conducted.

A Member of the Council of State, Naa Seidu Braimah, called for peace and teamwork irrespective of party affiliations in order to move forward the district carved out in 2004.

In a speech made earlier before the voting, Mr Aminu Salifu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa-East Constituency, who was happy about the entire proceedings, urged the members to bury their differences and confirm the President's nominee, who has the mandate to work to meet the aspirations of the people.
