The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has met the leadership of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly and Members of Parliament as part of consultations on the Cape Coast eight-year development plan.
The delegation, led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast, George Arthur, presented a comprehensive roadmap outlining key development priorities for the metropolis.
Among the major components of the plan are the refurbishment and eventual operation of the late President Evans Atta Mills Library, as well as the rehabilitation of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital.
The delegation also included the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Kwamena Minta Nyarku, and the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan.
The visit also served as a New Year courtesy call, during which the delegation extended goodwill messages to the Vice President and expressed hope for strength, clarity and renewed focus as the government continues efforts to reset the nation.
The engagement was disclosed in a post on the Vice President’s social media page.
Speaking on the meeting, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the discussions focused on how government support could help make Cape Coast more vibrant and economically viable, alongside local fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting development efforts within the metropolis.
The Vice President further stated that she encouraged the Assembly to involve residents of Cape Coast in decision-making processes to promote ownership of development initiatives and strengthen public commitment to change.
She also emphasised the need for the Assembly to pursue metropolitan development in line with the broader national development agenda.
