Kojo Cue: I’m open to rap battles, but legends are off limits for disrespect
Ghanaian rapper Kojo Cue has stated that he is willing to engage in rap beef but will not disrespect industry pioneers.
Speaking in an interview on Angel FM in Kumasi, the rapper made it clear that while competition is part of hiplife and rap culture, respect for those who paved the way remains important to him.
“I can never diss old gees like Okyeame Kwame, Flowking Stone, Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour and Okomfour Kwadee, even if one steps on my toes,” he said.
Kojo Cue explained that his decision is rooted in deep respect for the veterans who helped shape Ghana’s music industry. According to him, these artistes deserve honour rather than attacks, regardless of circumstances.
However, the rapper was quick to add that he will not stay silent if he is directly targeted by other artistes. He noted that he is prepared to respond when necessary, especially if he considers the challenger worthy.
“If you come after me and I find you worth it, I will diss you back,” he stated.
Clarifying his approach to diss tracks, Kojo Cue said he does not engage in general or random attacks. Instead, he only responds when he is clearly mentioned or provoked in a song.
“I don’t take on generic diss songs. If you directly mention my name, that is when I might return your diss,” he explained.
Beyond rap battles, the artiste also touched on the pressures that come with fame. He stressed that he remains grounded and refuses to be influenced by public expectations about how he should live his life.
“Nobody in Ghana can put pressure on me to live a certain lifestyle because of my fame. Any lifestyle beyond music is not a part of me,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey, Kojo Cue also shared some of the struggles he faced earlier in his career. He recalled difficult moments when he and his team sometimes lacked money even after performances.
“There were times in the past when we struggled to even get money to get home,” he said.
