Be more professional -Minister advises boxers
The need for boxers in the country to be disciplined and more professional in their operations became the focus during an interview with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.
He expressed concern about the failure of Michael Ayitey Powers to slug it out with Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, on April 18, 2014, which has generated national interest. Mr Afriyie Ankrah said it was time boxers in Ghana took their profession seriously.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah noted,“Boxers in the country must at all times consider the interest of boxing fans and honour their bouts”.
The minister who was sharing his views on the controversy that has characterised the proposed Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers bout, dubbed “Judgement Night” said, boxing is a serious business, and boxers must act professionally.
After failing to make the much awaited April, 18 bout, which he claimed his spiritual father had warned him against, Michael Ayitey Powers, last Tuesday shocked the entire country when for the second time, he failed to sign a supplimentary contract to confirm the rescheduled May 16 date he had earlier requested for.
The cruiserweight boxer asked for more days to study the details of the contract before putting pen to paper .Elvis Afriyie Ankrah called on all stakeholders in boxing, especially, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), to institute the right measures to sanitise boxing as a sport in the country. This, the minister said, was to prevent any boxer from taking the pugilist fraternity for granted.“I just want the GBA to ensure that, the right thing is done, so that boxers do not take boxing as a sport for granted”.
