Afcon 2017 qualifiers; Ghana 7:1 Mauritius (FT)

The Black Stars of Ghana started matchday one of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier on a good note scoring 7:1 against less fancied Mauritius at home in Accra on Sunday.

The Stars who were returning to the Accra Sports Stadium after a long break saw Christian Atsu, Jordan Ayew and captain Asamoah Gyan fetching five goals with one reply with the visitors before half time.

It was Atsu who broke the deadlock in the 10th minute before Ayew scored an easy tap in on 17th minute.

Gyan added two more goals in the 23rd and 30th minutes before Mauritius pulled one back in the 31st minute.

Ayew scored his second on the day in the 38th minute after good work by Baba Rahman on the left side of the Black Stars attack.

Lorient striker Ayew partnered skipper Asamoah Gyan in attack for the Black Stars.

Jeffrey Schlupp and David Ackam added the two goals in the second half.
