Donsu steals show at MTN FA Cup Awards

Medeama Sporting Club’s attacking midfielder, Kwasi Donsu, was the toast of the 5th MTN FA Cup Awards Night held last Friday at the Banquet Hall of the State House, after scooping three awards, including the coveted Most Valuable Player of the year.

The 24-year-old also won the Top Scorer award and the Goal of the Tournament trophy on a night which saw the nation’s best local players and officials honoured with plaques, cash prizes, laptop computers and citations.

The event, which was graced by the Youth and Sports Minister, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and other dignitaries, saw other top performers of the FA Cup receiving awards.

Tudu Mighty Jet’s Emmanuel Eli Keke took the Most Promising Player award, while Aduana Stars’ Godfred Saka was adjudged Best Defender.

The contest for the Best Coach went to Medeama’s Swedish trainer Tom Strand, who beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s David Duncan to the award.

The night indeed belonged to the Tarkwa-based FA Cup champions, Medeama, as their safest pair of hands, Muntari Tagoe, won the Best Goalkeeper award, while Kotoko went home with the Top Scoring Club award with 16 goals in addition to the Fair Play prize.

Paul Agambah and C.W. Okine were adjudged the Best Match Commissioners, while the Most Promising Referee prize went to Juliet Appiah, with the Best Assistant Referee going to Ashittey Armah, and Issaka Afful winning the Best Referee award.

Special awards were also presented to Great Astronomers, Afienya City FC and Die Hard Supporters Union for their contribution to the competition.
