Grant dismayed over no money syndrome

Black Stars coach, Avram Grant, has registered his frustrations over what he describes as the dire financial situation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports  he claims is affecting his  work.

Speaking at a post-match conference after the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by the Amavubi of Rwanda, the Israeli-born trainer lamented the Ministry’s austere measure as militating against their ability to scout on Uganda, one of Ghana’s opponents in the World Cup qualifiers.

“I asked  for scouts  but I was told there was no money , I don’t want to talk about whether there is a fight between the Ministry and the Ghana Football Association(GFA) or not, but  I want to work  as a professional  which is to  scout on my opponents  but we couldn’t because we didn’t have money for flight,” he said in dismay.

The former Chelsea manager was not happy with the bad nature of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium, describing it as the worst pitch he has ever seen.

“The pitch is one of the worst  I have ever seen and when we asked for it to be sprayed before the game against Mozambique in March  the authorities  failed and as a result three players were injured in the first half (Atsu, Wakaso and Acheampong)”, he bemoaned.

According to Grant, they incurred the wrath of the players’ clubs and he was shocked later to learn  that the authorities could not raise GHc8,00 to fuel a tanker  to bring water to spray the pitch.

“I asked the guy responsible why he didn’t spray the pitch and he said they needed money for fuel so I asked how much  it was and he said GH¢800 so I asked why he didn’t tell me to pay,” the coach stated.

He described Ghana as a great country with friendly people and a lot of potential.
