Hearts go top as Kotoko, All Stars drop points

Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, moved to the summit of the Premier League after a famous 1-0 win against Sekondi Hasaacas at the Essipong Stadium.

The feat ensured the Phobians dislodged leaders Wa All Stars. It was striker Cosmos Dauda’s brilliant backheel in the 59th minute that ensured victory for the Phobians.

While Hearts needed victory to recapture the top spot weeks after surrendering it, it was WAFA’s 1-2 victory over All Stars that ended the reign of the Wa side at the top.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko failed to win after they were held to a scoreless draw by Bechem United.

Kotoko were hoping to avenge a quarter-final MTN FA Cup loss to Bechem but lacked the needed bite upfront to execute that mission.

The tactically disciplined Bechem were on the back foot for most of the time but knew how to break on the counter in search of goal but failed to do justice to the chances that came their way.

In one of the shockers over the weekend, visiting Dreams FC notched a 1-0 win over Liberty Professionals to move to the sixth position with 29 points, reports Beatrice Laryea.

Experienced Eric Gawu got the only goal in the 78th minute when he tapped home a pass from Abdul Bashiru from the wings.

Playing with 10 men after Emmanuel Antwi was red-carded for a second bookable offence, including pulling down Emmanuel Elikeke, Liberty fought hard but could not fetch the equaliser as goalie Philemon McCarthy pulled some brilliant saves.

During one of such heroics, goalkeeper McCarthy was beaten in a sticky situation but recovered quickly to save striker Latif Blessing’s goal-bound shot.
