Inter Allies pip Olympics by lone goal

Tema based Inter Allies secured a double victory over visiting Accra Great Olympics this season when they pipped them 1-0 in the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League Match played at Tema on Sunday.

Sheriff Deo Mohammed scored the only goal from a counter attack after the referee ignored a foul on an Olympics player near the centre circle.

In the 30th minute, Inter Allies' goalkeeper, Osei Kwame pulled off a fantastic save to deny Agbeshie Doetse an equaliser in a one-on-one situation.

Ropapa Mensah had the opportunity to increase the tally for the home side in the 33rd minute but his bicycle kick was saved by Osei Boateng in post for Olympics.

In the dying embers of the game, Olympics mounted pressures and secured three corner kicks in a row. It was one of such corner kicks which appeared to have hit the hands of an Inter Allies player, however their penalty appeal was turned down by Referee Patrick Kyeremanteng, a decision that enraged Olympics supporters.

During post-match interviews, Great Olympics coach, Yaw Acheampong described the referee’s performance as embarrassing. "We all saw what happened on the field. It was like we were playing eleven against twelve. You all saw what happened and can best make your judgment", an outraged coach told the media.

Captain for Accra Great Olympics, Godwin Attram said since joining the Ghana Premier League, he has never been happy with officiating. "People pay money to come and enjoy good football only for referees to mar the beauty of the game," Attram said.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin of Inter Allies on his part said the game was fair and that his side also had some bad calls against them but they took it in their stride and played on.

He was hopeful of his team’s chances in the league in spite of the exodus of some of his players.

Livid Great Olympics fans nearly attacked the referee but were kept at bay by security personnel.
