A planned diner gala night has been slated for the Banquet Hall in Accra on June 26, the eve of his testimonial match to officially bid Ghanaians farewell after decades of his illustrious football career.

Big wigs across the length and breadth of the country, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, former Presidents, Jerry Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, as well as the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood, are expected to grace the occasion and to drive home the need to support the former Black Stars icon.

Without necessarily applauding himself, Appiah told a press conference in Kumasi last Wednesday that key to his success was humility and respect for all as he urged the youth to take after him.

Appiah’s passion to give back to society is premised on his background, particularly as someone who struggled to extricate himself from harsh conditions at Chorkor, a suburb of Accra.

Meanwhile, Cameroun international, Samuel Eto’o Fils, and reigning Africa Footballer of the Year, Yahaya Toure, Nwanko Kanu and Austin J J Okocha, both of Nigeria, will join a legion of world greats, including Appiah’s former Juventus playmates, such as Robberto Baggio and Alessandro Del Piero, and a host of Black Stars players to honour the match.
