Accra Stadium renovation to begin next month

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, has revealed that renovation works at the Accra Sports Stadium would begin early next month in preparation for next year's Africa Women’s Championship (AWC) to be staged in Ghana.

Mr Asiamah said procument for the renovation works had been done and the only thing left was the commencement of the renovation which would give the stadium a facelift.

Bissah must explore all avenues - says Foh-Amoaning

A former president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Moses Foh-Amoaning, has waded into the Martha Bissah feud with the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), urging the young promising athlete must explore all available avenues for sports adjudication to clear her name.

Mr Foh-Amoaning told the Graphic Sports that although it was unclear the offence for which Martha Bissah was suspended, she did apologise verbally in the presence of her guardian, Mikki Osei Berko, when she was invited by a disciplinary body set up by Prof Dodoo’s administration.

Accra Hearts of Oak’s Scottish coach, Frank Nuttal, says the Phobians can do without four key stars whose contract extension negotiations have stirred controversy in the club in the past weeks.

Despite reports that Hearts board chairman, Togbe Afede XIV, is making overtures towards the return of Vincent Atinga and Kwame Kizito especially, Coach Nuttal insists that his team was fine without the duo and that he would rather focus on strengthening the squad with new players.

US-based athlete Emmanuel Dasor has graduated from the Western Kentucky University with a degree in Business Administration.

Dasor, who has represented Ghana in the 200 metres and 400 metres at the African Championships, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games, is among a number of Ghanaian athletes on sporting scholarships in the USA secured by the Ghana Athletics Association.

Accra Hearts of Oak training for pre-season’s activities moved up a gear yesterday when the head coach, Frank Nuttall, took over after returning from holiday in Scotland last Tuesday night.

Africa Online clinch C Squared Fibre Cup

Africa Online Ghana last Saturday needed a penalty shootout to defeat Surfline 2-1 en route to clinching the second edition of the C Squared Fibre Cup after the final ended goalless in normal time.

‘GFA needs new faces to attract sponsors’

A retired footballer, Mr Y.B. Amponsah, has implored the hierarchy of the Ghana football Association (GFA) to freshen the association by bringing on board new faces who have fresh ideas and are very knowledgeable in football. 

His call comes barely two weeks after a veteran sports administrator, Fitzgerald Barkers-Woode, alias Nana Fitz, had urged the president of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi, and his executive committee members to resign en bloc to avoid sinking Ghana football further into the deep seas.

Amponsah, Otoo ride high

Ghanaian youngster, Nana Opoku Ampomah, had every reason to be on cloud nine as he registered his name on the score sheet for his Belgian side, Waasland-Beveren in their 3-1 over Standard Liege in the Belgian Jupiler League.

Ampomah, who made his international debut for the Black Stars during their final World Cup qualifiers against Egypt last month, scored in what proved to cushion his side on the day in the 72nd minute.

Aduana Stars skipper, Godfred Saka, has open up himself to a possible move to Kumasi Asante Kotoko and says a switch to the Porcupine Warriors offers him exciting opportunities which he would not hesitate to grab.

Saka, who returned to Ghana last week after a failed move to Nigerian giants Enyimba, has put interested clubs on alert after declaring he would not renew his contract with Aduana. However, he revealed that he was yet to engage in talks with officials of Kotoko despite media reports strongly linking him with a move to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Ministry must save Bissah’s career— GOC President

The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has made a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to act fast to save the career of Ghana’s sole Youth Olympics gold medalist, Martha Bissah, in the supreme interests of Ghana athletics.

The GOC boss said Martha had a lot of potential which could be beneficial to the country and therefore the ministry must not allow individual interests to destroy the young athlete’s future.

FIFA fines Nigeria US$6000 for fielding an ineligible player in 2018 WC Qualifiers.

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), has imposed a fine of US$6000 on the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), for fielding an unqualified player in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria.

In addition to the fine, FIFA also annulled the 1:1 score line in the said game between Algeria and Nigeria on November 10, 2017 and subsequently awarded a 3:0 score line instead, in favor of Algeria.
