Minister assures Dogboe of govt’s support

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah, says his outfit is ready to support undefeated Isaac Dogboe in his upcoming WBO Interim Super Bantamweight title fight against Mexico's Caesar Juarez in Accra on Januray 6.

Mr Asiamah, who made the pledge when Team Dogboe paid a courtesy call on him in his office last Friday, underlined government's committment to revive boxing and other sporting disciplines in the country.

FOCOS Hospital rescues handball player’s career

National handball player and wing-attacker of the Cantonments Youth handball team,Jessica Regina Diame, has expressed her profound gratitude to the management and staff of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital for giving her another opportunity to play her favourite sport again after sitting out for nearly nine months injured.

Last week, Jessica underwent a successful surgery at the hospital after suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear in her right knee during a training session at the Prisons Sports Complex in Cantonment in Accra last February.

Paul Dogboe, father and trainer of undefeated super bantamweight boxer, Isaac Dogboe, has described his son's decision to challenge Mexican Caesar Juarez for the Interim WBO world title on January 6 as a brave one.

Paul noted that it was in the interest of his camp to fight the best if Isaac was to remain the best in his division, hence the interest in taking the opportunity while others chickened out.

Ghana's lightweight contender, Richard Oblitey Commey, is set to face a new opponent after his supposed IBF world title eliminator with Russia's Roman Andreev was called off.
