Sierra Leone is bidding to revitalise women's football in the country with the launch of a first-ever league under the leadership of the nation's first-ever female Football Association President, Isha Johansen.

Kotoko lifts 2017 President Cup

Kumasi Asante Kotoko lifted the President's Cup back-to-back at the expense of their arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak after beating them 4-1 on penalties in a replay final at the Baba Yara Stadium on Monday.

The two teams drew 0-0 during regulation time but Kotoko converted four of their spot kicks as against one by Hearts to at least avenge for one of the two defeats suffered at the hands of their rivals.

Frank Akuffo wins Cowbell Cycling Challenge

Teenage cycling sensation Frank Akuffo won a sprint finish to clinch the 84-kilometre Cowbell Cycling Challenge which was held on Monday in Accra.

Akuffo, 19, along with his Velo Stars teammate Isaac Sackey led a chasing pack of 98 riders but the younger cyclist crossed the finish line first at Teshie Mobil in a time of one hour, 57 minutes and 23 seconds.

The 2017 Ga Homowo Traditional Wrestling competition will come off in Tema and La on August 5 and August 26 respectively.

Undefeated boxers, Briamah "Bukom Banku" Kamoko and Bastie Samir have promised fireworks on September 30 when they face off in the ring in a non-title cruiserweight bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Portugal recover to beat Mexico for Confed Cup bronze

An extra-time penalty from Adrien Silva gave Portugal a 2-1 win over Mexico and third place in the 2017 Confederations Cup yesterday.

Portugal, who missed a spot kick given thanks to the video assistant referees 16 minutes into the match, were awarded a second penalty after 104 minutes when Miguel Layun handled the ball.

Ghana’s armwrestling team, Golden Arms, claimed a total of 21 medals to finish second behind hosts Nigeira at the just-ended African Armwrestling Championship in Lagos, Nigeria.

Nigeria claimed the gold trophy as the top team after hauling a total of 46 medals, comprising 19 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze.

President’s Cup rained-off

This year's President Cup match between rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak to honour the sitting President and also to cleberate Ghana's 57 years as a Republican state was rained off at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi yesterday after 65 minutes of play.

The match is to be replayed on ......, according to GHALCA, organisers of the annual match.
