Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-president, Mr George Afriyie, and Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Mr Francis Assenso, have been appointed as co-chairmen of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament to be hosted by Ghana.

Ghana became the first team to qualify for the semi-final at the Total U-17 African Cup of Nations Gabon 2017 after securing a 5- 0 win against hosts Gabon at the Stade de Port Gentil.

In-form striker and captain, Eric Ayiah and midfielder Emmanuel Toku scored a brace each while second-half substitute Patmos Arhin added the other goal for Black Starlets' second win in as many matches in Group A following Sunday’s 4-0 win against Cameroon.

GEODRILL offers $10,000 for gold at 2018 Commonwealth Games

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GEODRILL Ghana Limited, Dave Harper, has promised to offer Ghanaian athletes who win gold at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia a $10,000 prize.

Ghana has won a total of 57 medals since the inception of the Games in 1930, 15 out of which have been gold, with the last being the golds which were won by Ignisious Gaisah and Majeti Fetrie at the Melbourne Games in 2006.

Ghana’s Black Starlets are a win away from making the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa U-17 Cup of Nations when they lock horns with hosts Gabon at the Stade de Port-Gentil later today.

After thrashing giants Cameroun 4-0 in their opening game last Sunday, the Starlets will automatically qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be staged in India in October if they beat Gabon.

Ghana's quest to win medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games next April in Gold Coast, Australia has received a GH₵25,000 boost from the Australian High Commission in Ghana.

The sum was presented to the Ghana Olympic Committee by the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Andrew Barnes on Monday in Accra.

National Sports Fund Committee inaugurated

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has expressed optimism that the funding deficit of sports programmes will soon be consigned to the past following the inauguration of a 13-member Technical Committee to oversee the creation of a National Sports Fund.

According to Mr Asiamah, the committee, headed by his deputy, Mr Pius Enam Hadzide, has been tasked to review and put in place an institutional framework that will explore alternative revenue streams aside from the national budget that will be used to cater for all the 43 sporting disciplines in the country.
