Hagble and Barik, both of the Ghana Navy, won the men’s and ladies races respectively and will be joined by the nine best finishers of each event when other regional contestants gather in Accra for the second Millennium Marathon on September 3 in Accra.

Joining Barik, who won the race for the second year running, are Gifty Oppon, Mercy Nyarko Fosu, Sabina Baidoo, Anastasia McCarthy, Benedicta Aiawa, Doris Bayor, Immaculate Ayima, Monica Arther and Madeline Baidoo.

Hagble headlines a strong regional men’s team, comprising Ernest Adjei, Anthony Yin, John Boateng, Yao Kporgbe, Nuhu Annan, Enoch Graham, Emmanuel Burayiri, Eric Ackon and Amos Arhinakwah for the flagship marathon in the nation’s capital.

Last Saturday’s 14-kilometre race, which commenced at the Jubilee park at Tanokrom in Takoradi, attracted over 100 participants from schools, keep fit clubs, the army, and representatives of some corporate organisations.

The participants went through the Paa Grant roundabout, Takoradi Polytechnic,  Effiekuma to Number Nine -traffic light, CK Man Road to the Tadisco Down, Kwesimintsim and back to the Jubilee Park.

Addressing the participants after the race, the Western Regional Sports Development Officer, Mr Beresford Amui, said even though the regional contest received low publicity compared to the previous edition, it ended up well.
