Bechem United President holds talks with Black Stars midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi on advancing town's football

Bechem United Football Club President, Kojo Owusu-Achau, has met Black Stars midfielder Caleb Marfo Yirenkyi in Europe as part of his ongoing continental tour.

In a Facebook post, the club described the meeting as “a proud moment as two sons of Bechem connect on the global stage,” sharing a photograph of the pair.

The encounter, according to sources, also provided an opportunity for the two to hold talks on possible collaborations aimed at advancing football development in Bechem, the Bono Region town they both hail from.

Yirenkyi, a native of Bechem, plays for Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjælland. A product of the Right to Dream Academy, he joined the Danish club’s academy in March 2024 and made his first-team debut in September that year.

He earned a permanent promotion to the senior squad in February 2025 after signing a contract extension until 2029.

His rapid rise has drawn comparisons with Ghanaian legend Michael Essien, and in May this year, he received his first call-up to the Black Stars, making his debut in the 2025 Unity Cup match against Nigeria.

Owusu-Achau’s meeting with the 19-year-old is seen as a significant step in strengthening ties between Bechem’s emerging football talents abroad and the town’s sporting leadership at home.
