Bonsu wins Wassa Damanghene Golf

A Kumasi-based Royal Golf Club member, Maxwell Osei Bonsu, emerged winner in the Men’s Group A of the annual Wassa Damanghene Golf Tournament held at the Damang Golf Club in the Western Region last weekend.

He finished with a gross score of 146 points, followed by Foster Korang from the Damang Golf Club, who finished with 148 points, and Anthony Ackah from Obuasi Golf Club with 152 points. 

Paul Mensah from Ankobra-Bogoso Golf Club completed in fourth position with 152 points, followed by James Akwaboah from the Nsuta Golf Club who garnered 154 points, Yaw Anarfi, Dacosta Amofa Owusu and J.S. Ghartey in that order with a score of 156.

In Group B, Stephen Abongo from Ankobra-Bogosoled won with a net score of 127 followed by Enoch Adjei from Damang with 135, Craig Tandoh from Ankobra-Bogoso with 135 and Francis Aubynn also scoring 136.

Rev. Augustine Mensah from the Tema Country Golf Club also won the Men’s Group C with a net score of 156 as Damang’s Ernest Appiah ended with 157. Fred Acquah from Nsuta netted 160 as Isaac Addae from Ankobra-Bogoso completed a net score of 169.

In the Ladies’ division, Paulina Acheampong from Damang won with a net score of 159, Gina Loupiac from Takoradi with a net score of 159 points came second, while Agnes Adams from Ankobra-Bogoso finished third with a score of 160 as Ruth Mens from Nsuta came fourth with the same score.

Kojo Barnie from Tarkwa won the professionals category, followed by Prince Amponsah and Issah Adams from Obuasi Golf Club.

Captain of the Damang Golf Club, Pius Ayeh Appiah, described the tournament as a success, saying the inclusion of juniors in the tournament was a step to encourage young persons to get interested in golf.

He said the club was committed to grooming professional golfers for the future and added that his outfit was poised to become one of the best in the country to attract international golfers and also stage international tournaments.

The president of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA), Mike Aggrey, commended Damang Golf Club for coming up with such initiative and urged other clubs to emulate it.

He again debunked the notion that golf was a sport for the rich and described it as a noble and honourable game which required a lot of integrity.

The Head of Sales of DHL Global Forwarding, Angela Arthur, expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation and gave a strong hint that the tournament would continue to enjoy the support of DHL in the coming years.
