Gilbert Fiamenyo — Accra Hearts of Oak

Can Hearts break Inter Allies record?

Accra Hearts of Oak’s unparalleled dominance over the years continue to wane and as they struggle to gasp for breath with just four matches to end the first round of the league, a clash with Inter Allies on Sunday might just seems ordinary.

But it is Hearts’ attacker, Gilbert Fiamenyo’s free scoring prowess --eight goals in 11 matches this season -- that has sparked interest and debate with pundits caught in endless talking point over whether he has what it takes to break through one of the most resilient defences in the local league this season,  Inter Allies having conceded six goals in 11 matches but yet to concede at home after five games.

Fiamenyo’s sudden resurgence from a rather timid performance last season, coupled with the return of coaches Herbert Addo and Paa Kwasi Fabin, who are leading their teams against their former employees, have added to an interesting twist to Sunday’s match at the Tema park.

Because the two coaches have deep knowledge of their opponents due to their previous stints, the game could be won from the bench. Coach Addo’s side that have been boosted by the return of left back Owusu Bempah from international duty with the Black Satellites, with others such as Robin Gnagne, Foovi Aguili, Ollennu Ashietey and Arnold Bosson, provide the Phobians a formidable force to end Inter Allies’ unbeaten home record.

Coach Fabin, on the other hand will have the luxury of the services of Simon Martey, Diawudeen Seidu, Sherif Mohammed,  Karim Sadat and Sabah Lawson, who have been at the heart of the team’s impressive run this season, to tame the threat posed by 12th-placed Hearts.

• Kumasi Asante Kotoko will seek relief as Coach Duncan leads them to his first home game against Liberty Professionals at the Baba Yara Stadium, while improving Accra Great Olympics host sixth-placed Wa All Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium.

• An exciting battle is expected at the Kpando Park as second-placed Heart of Lions entertain Medeama SC, Aduana Stars and Berekum Chelsea clash at the Agyemang Badu Park at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

• Sekondi Hasaacas look poised to vent their spleen on WAFA in another thrilling battle at the Sekondi Stadium at Essipon, B.A United welcome table toppers Ashgold at the Sunyani Coronation Park, while New Edubiase United welcome Bechem United to the Len Clay Sports Stadium at Obuasi.
