Christian Atsu loses mother
Ghana winger Christian Atsu has lost his mother. The Newcastle star took to his social media pages to announce the death of his mother today.
He posted: "Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure as you left us today #RIPMum".
The Newcastle United Twitter account and Atsu's Black Stars teammate Felix Annan were among the first to react to his mother's demise.

In a 2018 interview, Atsu credited his mother for his strong religious background which continues to guide his career.

“He said, ‘if you are this age and you don’t know what is good or bad, then maybe you will not grow again’. I took this as a bad comment, but for me, I think it was a good thing. I realised that ‘He has seen me as a grown man. I can make a decision’. It’s what you are doing, what you believe in, how you think. I felt that what you can go through can help you become a man quickly.”

Atsu, 28, was born in Ada Foah on Ghana’s south-east coast. He was one of ten children and his father Immanuel died when he was aged 12.
