The Black Stars Coach, Otto Addo, is expected to maintain the core of his current squad as he prepares to announce his team for Ghana’s upcoming international friendlies later this month.
According to the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, the coach is unlikely to make significant changes to the squad that featured in the final phase of the World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking in an interview with Joy Sports last Saturday, Mr Twum revealed that while he was yet to see the official list, he was confident Coach Otto Addo would prioritise continuity in his selection.
“As we speak, I haven’t seen who is in the team and who is not, but I think that, as much as possible, the coach would like to continue his rebuilding exercise by keeping the core of the team. It helps in team bonding, team building and consistency,” he said.
Ghana is scheduled to play Japan on November 14 before facing South Korea four days later, as part of preparations for future international assignments. The squad announcement is expected within the week.
The GFA’s spokesperson added that the limited number of FIFA international windows between now and June makes it unwise to make too many new introductions to the team.
“From now to June, it’s quite a long time in football, but unfortunately, we do not have too many games to test ourselves. After this window, the only official international break will be next year, in March, and then two weeks before the tournament. So, as much as possible, you would like to keep the core of the team together,” he explained.
