Commey makes quick work of Cruz

Ghana's lightweight boxer, Richard Commey earned one of his fastest wins in his career, as he stopped his Mexican opponent, Yardley Cruz in the second round of their scheduled 10-round world title eliminator fight at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum at Uniondale in New York (NY), United States.

Commey, who is International Boxing Federation (IBF) number one contender used the fight to stay fit ahead of his yet to be confirmed World title against IBF belt holder Mikey Garcia.

The Ghanaian, aware that Garcia and his team would monitor the fight, advertised his intentions and went straight into business with a fierce attack on the Mexican, who was forced to visit the canvas before the bell went to end the first round.

In the second round, Commey continued from where he left off, compelling referee Estevez to stop the fight to hand the Ghanain his 27th win and a new fight statistics of (27-2, 24 KOs), while Cruz current record stands at 24-11, (14 KOs)
In a post fight interview, Commey said he was ready to challenge new holder, Mikey Garcia for the unified World Boxing Council (WBC) and IBF lightweight title, after wrestling it out of the hands of Robert Easter Jnr.

Garcia last week, beat American, Easter Jnr. to unify the WBC and IBF titles at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California, mandating him to put it up against Commey who is the number one contender to the IBF lightweight belt.
