Cricket: Everest lead in Greater Accra league
Defending champions Everest Cricket Club lead the Greater Accra Cricket league table with four points after the Week Three matches were played last Sunday, at the Achimota Cricket Oval in Accra.
Everest are closely followed by Nsromma Titans with four points, the former leading with a NRR difference of 3.06 as compared to the Nsromma’s 1.54.
Everest’s game against City CC which was played in Oval A saw the latter winning the toss and deciding to field first. In the innings of Everest, they scored 218/5 while City CC could only manage 51/10 in 19.3 overs, allowing Everest to win by 167 runs.
Simon Ateak of Everest was adjudged Man of the Match after he scored 63 off 65 balls whereas SriyanLakmah scored 44 runs off 31 balls in the batting performance. David took 2/44 in six overs in the bowling figures.
David Abew of City CC scored 10 runs off 15 balls. Naanee took 3/17 in six overs for Everest and Frank V. took 2/6 in four overs. Avinash also took 2/3 in 1.3 overs.
In the other match on Oval B, Nsromma Titans won the toss and elected to field first and GTA Superkings had their innings. GTA scored 66/10 in 23 overs. Peter Ananya scored 32 runs off 59 balls. Godfred Bakiweyem took 3/5 in five overs.
The Titans came on to score 67/5 in 24.3 overs, therefore winning by 5 wickets. Mark Bawa of Nsromma Titans was adjudged the Man of the Match after he scored 17 runs off 37 balls. Madhu took 3/20 in 5.2 overs.
The league continues this Sunday with fifth placed Dilma playing their second match against Nsromma Titans on oval A, a tie that will be umpired by Vinod and Rufus.
On Oval B, Everest CC play BGC who are third, in a cagey encounter that will be umpired by Anefi and Asamoah.
At the end of the nine-week league, two top clubs will engage in a final play-off to decide the eventual champions.
