Coach David Duncan has been absolved as the key architect of Asante Kotoko’s current abysmal showing in the Ghana Premier League but he could face a possible sack after Friday night’s game against Sekondi Hasaacas at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The apparent ultimatum was not discussed at last Monday’s crisis meeting in Kumasi but a source within the management said, “what happened to former coach Didi Dramani could happen to Duncan if we fail to win on Friday.”

In a similar fashion, the former coach was pardoned at a crisis meeting and he was, indeed, given a vote of confidence but days later, he received the shock news of his sack.

Apart from one management member who was reported to have called for Duncan’s sack at the meeting, all the stakeholders called for calm to enable the coach to deliver on his promise.

Messrs Adu Gyamfi (Board Chairman) and Kwaku Amposah (K-5) represented the board, while the General Manager, Mr Samuel Opoku Nti, led the management team with team captain Amos Frimpong leading a four-man senior players at the frank discussion.

Graphic Sports sources at the meeting said a plethora of factors were identified as contributing to the team’s poor showing, including player indiscipline and ‘stage fright’ on the part of some players.

Subsequently, to address the player indiscipline, the team has moved to residential camping, while the other factors are being addressed immediately.

Coach Duncan had earlier indicated that he could not shoulder all the blame for the team’s poor performance, indicating the problems were broader than what people were alluding to.

“I will not resign, I have never resigned in my coaching career,” the tough-talking coach said on radio.

Indeed, the call for his sack at the meeting was unanimously shot down after the coach had listed a number of factors working against him, including player injuries.

Kotoko have picked just two points from a possible 12 and are lying at the bottom of the 16-club league.

But a section of Kotoko fans are not buying into the decision by the board and management to maintain the coach as some threaten on radio that if they fail to win on Friday, “hell will break loose”.

Security is expected to be beefed up at the stadium during Friday’s game following hints by some fans to foment trouble.
