Fans lose interest in Stars?
The enthusiasm, high spirit, tumultous cheers, rumbling and tumbling and the tooting of horns which usually characterise the unflinching support for the senior national team, the Black Stars, was for the first time missing, especially during the Stars’ final game against Portugal in Brasilia last Thursday.

From the social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and Telegramme to the markets, offices and the streets of the capital, Accra, many Ghanaian supporters held entrenched positions and were not bothered about the outcome of the match.
While some Ghanaian fans were still hopeful that the team could qualify to the next stage of the competition, many people said they did not care about the fate of the team.
This situation was in contrast to the typical Ghanaian support for the national teams and the game of football in particular.
When the Daily Graphic went round town during the Ghana-Portugal match on thursday afternoon to find out the state of affairs, the general impression was that there was disaffection for the Stars while majority of people had lost interest in the activities of the Black Stars and this was as a result of events preceding the departure of the team, as well as what had been in media circles, including the huge amount of money paid the players just before the Ghana-Portugal encounter.
Another issue had to do with the means by which the money was paid, which appeared to have upset many football fans, especially when it was reported it was airlifted to Brazil amid tight security.
All these, notwithstanding, the last straw that broke the camel’s back was the news which circulated in the early hours of thursday that Sulley Muntari had allegedly assaulted a management committee member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) during a meeting.
The news spread like wildfire and immediately got many people unfuriated and apathetic towards the the Stars.

Thus, while others shouted for goal, some also prayed that Portugal would defeat the Black Stars, so they end their 2014 World Cup campaign and return home.
