Fecafoot President Samuel Eto'o elected to CAF Executive Committee

Samuel Eto'o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), was elected to the CAF Executive Committee by acclamation in Cairo on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, as he was the only candidate from the Central Africa region.

Eto'o's election to CAF's decision-making body was one of the major highlights of Wednesday’s events in Cairo.

Just last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of Eto'o, allowing him to be included as a candidate after he had been initially excluded by CAF's governance committee in January.

The 44-year-old former Cameroon striker had been suspended last year by both FIFA and CAF for violating disciplinary regulations.

CAF imposed the ban following an investigation into his role as an ambassador for a betting company, which was seen as a breach of its ethical and integrity standards.

However, the ban and a $200,000 fine were later overturned on appeal.

When his name was announced, Eto'o received a warm reception from the delegates in attendance, alongside the five other newly elected members of the CAF Executive Committee.

Eto'o, who has led Fecafoot since December 2021, has faced controversy during his tenure.

Last September, he was handed a six-match ban from attending Cameroon games, and some former international teammates have criticized his leadership style, with one labeling him a "dictator" for his handling of the appointment of Indomitable Lions head coach Marc Brys.
