David Nakousi of the University of Ghana cemented his dominance on the roads of Accra last Saturday when he retained his title in the elite men’s mass race of the 2025 First National Bank (FNB) Accra Marathon.
The defending champion once again proved untouchable, outpacing over 2,000 runners in the gruelling 21.2km half-marathon, which started at Accra Sports stadium and ended in a carnival-like atmosphere at the Dansoman Keep Fit Club grounds.
A 23-year-old diploma student in Youth Development Work, Nakousi crossed the finish line in 1.09:01 hours and pocketed GH¢10,000, as well as received sponsor products for his outstanding effort.
Ismael Arthur finished second in 1.09:02 hours to earn GH¢6,000 as his prize, followed in third place by Kenya’s Kevin Ragui (1.12:33 hours), who took home GH¢3,000.

The women’s race also produced fierce competition, with Kenyan Florence Watetu Wachira storming to victory in 1.21:60 hours to claim the top prize of GH¢10,000.
She was followed by last year’s winner Joyce Ayaba (1.23:05) and Mariam Adu (1.23:55), who took second and third places, and earned GH¢6,000 and GH¢3,000, respectively.
The Junior Run category was equally competitive, with Prosper Nensom and Jessica Nalipack emerging as winners of the boys' and girls' events, respectively.
More than just a race, the popular marathon brought together runners of all ages, from juveniles and teenagers to fitness enthusiasts, in a vibrant celebration of endurance, community, and health.
Outstanding youngsters were also recognised for their performances in their respective categories.
Celebration of endurance
Under clear blue skies, with enthusiastic spectators cheering the participants along the route, this year’s marathon captured the true spirit of Accra — energetic, competitive, and full of life.
The starter’s gun went off at 6:30 a.m., with the Junior Run starting from the Bukom Boxing Arena, followed shortly by the Corporate Run for companies and social clubs. The main 21km Half Marathon got underway at 7 a.m. at the Accra Sports Stadium.
During the presentation ceremony, Dansoman Keep Fit Club Chairman, Benjamin Ahulu, commended participants for their enthusiasm and resilience, noting that the event continued to grow stronger each year.
“The FNB Accra Marathon has become a national fitness tradition. Next year will be even bigger, with more participants and greater rewards,” he gave an assurance.
The Managing Director of First National Bank, Warren Adams, who presented the prizes to the winners, reaffirmed his outfit’s commitment to the event. He also encouraged Ghanaians to make fitness a lifestyle, as it was essential for everyone who wanted to live a longer, healthier life.
