GBA Elective Congress postponed, top aspirants set for FFR evaluation

The race to determine who becomes the next President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) will have to wait following the postponment of the Elective Extraordinary Congress originally scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026.

According to a press statement signed by Ghana Boxing IMC Chairman Samir Captan, a number of key factors including inadequate funds and non-completion of the vetting process have necessitated a shift of date.

In consultation with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the decision was therefore taken to ensure that no candidate is disenfranchised and that the vetting process is conducted thoroughly, transparently and in strict adherence to the GBA Constitution.

The race to determine who becomes the next President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) will have to wait following the postponent of the Elective Extraordinary Congress originally scheduled for today, Thursday, June 4, 2026.

It noted that due to several appeals from aspirants for amendments, corrections and submission of requested documents, the IMC has resolved to conduct the final vetting session today at the Accra Sports Stadium. Compilation of delegates list for the Elective Congress meanwhile is still ongoing.

“Due to budgetary constraints, the ongoing compilation of the delegate list, and the need for adequate time to complete vetting and consultations have made it necessary to postpone the election,” the statement said.

“The Elective Extraordinary Congress will therefore not take place on 4th June 2026 as earlier announced. A new date will be communicated after the vetting process and consultations are concluded,” it explained.

The Ghana Boxing IMC was sworn into office last September to sanitize the sport and drive reforms

In a related development, the IMC has announced the introduction of a mandatory Fitness-For-Role (FFR) evaluation for all aspirants contesting the top positions of President, First Vice-President and and Second Vice President. This, it explained, is to further strengthen the integrity of the electoral process.

"The GBIMC assures all stakeholders that the vetting and election processes will be conducted with transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to the GBA Constitution," Mr Captan assured.
