GFA to meet Faisal, Aduana over court case

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is to convene a meeting today with parties involved in a litigation over the relegation of clubs in last season’s First Capital Plus Premier League, which has held back the conveneing of Congress to draw the curtain on the season and usher in a new one.

The FA’s latest move is part of efforts to reach a compromise, by getting the case filed by King Faisal to be withdrawn from the law courts for settlement by the football authority in order to pave the  way for the commencement of the 2014/15 Premier League.

The Chairman of GHALCA, Alhaji Ali Raji, disclosed to the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday that prior to today’s scheduled meeting, the clubs’ umbrella body had also met with representatives of 19 football clubs, including Faisal, to deal with some pertinent issues and also persuade the parties involved in the lawsuit to agree on some issues so that the league could commence.

Alhaji Raji expressed his dissatisfaction about the manner in which the FA handled the issue, by proceeding to Congress without allowing the judicial process within the football structure to be exhausted.

Faisal, who had a case pending before the FA’s Appeals Committee, obtained an interlocutory injunction from an Accra High Court on the GFA Congress until the final determination of their case.

“We cannot blame both teams, Aduana [Stars] and King Faisal, because the GFA erred by going to Congress without allowing the judicial process to end,” he said, and added that after today’s meeting with the parties, another one would be reconvened on Friday to see the way forward.
