KGL Foundation celebrates Farmers Day with tennis

The KGL Foundation, renowned for its innovation and philanthropy, was the prime sponsor of this year’s Tema Farmers’ Day Tennis Tournament organised by the Premier Tennis Club last Friday in Tema.

The tournament, held annually for the past five years to celebrate farmers on National Farmers Day, featured four participating teams this year, namely Tema Premier Tennis Club, Koforidua Sports Club, Burma Camp Tennis Club and Sakumono Tennis Club.

In the end, the duo of Richard Frimpong Ansah and Sisu Tomegah, representing Sakumono Tennis Club, emerged champions of the one-day event following a ruthless 7-1 drubbing of hosts, Premier Tennis Club, in the doubles final of an enthralling competition.

Aside from the attractive prizes to the winners, there was a presentation of Dunlop tennis balls — 24 cans — given to each of the participating clubs to support their training and development as a big thank you for making the event successful and in alignment with the goals of the main sponsors.

According to Public Relations Officer of the KGL Foundation, Edwin Osmond-Lamptey, the foundation’s partnership with the Premier Tennis Club was another avenue to make an impact by supporting the development of the sport in this country to even rival renowned global competitions.

"As a foundation, we’re very interested in the upliftment of underserved Ghanaian communities, ensuring they have the capacity to exercise their full potential. We hope to see that this will grow into a tournament like Wimbledon. We hope to see that people will use this tournament as a stepping stone towards achieving greater things," Mr Osmond-Lamptey said.

"We desire to impact the lives of Ghanaians by supporting initiatives like the Tema Farmers Day Tennis Tournament, which infuses sports with community development. In the same vein, we also, in our own small way, celebrate our farmers who nourish us by supporting such worthy events," he affirmed.
