Kotoko, Ashgold clash in K’si

Kotoko, Ashgold clash in K’si

The relegation worries of fallen giants, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, are far from over as they find themselves in more trouble as the First Capital Plus Premiership heat intensifies this weekend.

After losing two straight games, Kotoko will aim to avoid a third consecutive loss as they play league leaders AshantiGold at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in a match whose outcome could either deepen the relegation woes of the host team or shape the Soccer Miners’ title hunt.

Fully inspired by their surprise 4-0 demolition of Heart of Lions in Cape Coast Coast last Wednesday, the Phobians will storm familiar territory at Obuasi tomorrow with vigour to attempt a second straight win against New Edubiase United.

The Ashgold-Kotoko clash will be full of fireworks and too close to call as the Aboakese lads — who were knocked out of the FA Cup by David Duncan’s side a few weeks ago — seek to consolidate their position on top of the league log after seeing their lead shrink from 10 points to two in recent times.

And as under-fire Duncan leads the wounded Kotoko against his former side, he knows very well nothing short of a home win will appease their disappointed fans and rescue the defending champions from sinking further into the relegation dragnet

Interestingly, these are games none of the four teams can afford to lose since the results are tied to their survival or otherwise in the league.

Currently perched in the 11th and 12th positions respectively, Hearts and Kotoko will obviously sink deeper in the relegation waters in case they fall, just as New Edubiase who are only a step above the Phobians.

Conversely, Ashgold need at least an away point to tighten their grip at the top, particularly with Berekum Chelsea hard on their heels with just two points between them.

However, Chelsea also find themselves in the same scenario as they face a difficult away game against Bechem United, who are just three steps away from the bottom.
In Accra, last but one Great Olympics, after missing a good chance to nail condemned B.A. United in Sunyani last Sunday, need a miracle to dispatch visiting Medeama, while ninth-placed Liberty Professionals and third-placed WAFA will treat football fans to a good game at Dansoman on Sunday.

Another relegation-threatened side, Heart of Lions, engage visiting Wa All Stars in a must-win encounter; Aduana Stars look set to conquer Inter-Allies at their Dormaa-Ahenkro fortress, while Sekondi Hasaacas have the edge over B.A. United at Essipon.
