We act as though we are the super powers of football in Africa

‘Let’s train personnel for all disciplines’

A sports lecturer at the University of Education Winneba, Dr Jatong A. Baba, has advocated the training of sports administrators to serve the various sporting associations.

Dr Baba noted that  the nation’s sporting structures had paid little attention to the training of administrators to manage and supervise the administrative activities of most sporting organisations.

The expert made these remarks during a handball competition for students of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS) of the University of Education, Winneba, last Saturday.

The competition, dubbed “The Jatong Cup”, involving level 100 to 400 handball students, is an annual event played in honour of Dr Baba, a handball expert, for his role in developing the game over the years.

Dr Baba also called for a more serious approach towards the  least developed sporting disicplines and noted that despite the huge investment in football, it had not fetched the country the needed benefits.

“We act as though we are the super powers of football in Africa but we are mediocre in football with respect to our achievements and honours over the years, so why the over-reliance on football?” he queried.
