President Mahama's congratulatory message to BlackStars: '#ResettingGhana'

President John Dramani Mahama has congratulated the Black Stars, for booking a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday night.

In a post on Facebook, President Mahama praised the team’s determination, describing their qualification as “another proud moment for Ghana,” and tagged his message with #ResettingGhana.

The crucial goal came from Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who struck two minutes into the second half to send Ghana to their fifth World Cup appearance. Kudus reacted quickly to a loose clearance in the Comoros penalty area, slotting home from close range to the delight of a packed Accra crowd.

The win lifted Ghana to the top of Group I, making the Black Stars the fifth African nation to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, joining Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia.

Despite dominating possession in the opening half, the Black Stars found it difficult to break down Comoros’ deep defensive setup. However, their persistence paid off after the restart as Kudus’ goal proved enough to seal the win and ignite celebrations nationwide.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — the first edition to feature an expanded 48-team format.
