Olympics split points with Kotoko

Accra Great Olympics yesterday shared the spoils with Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their goalless draw betPawa Premier League game at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Playing at their adopted home, Olympics were looking forward to turning the backyard of Kotoko into a hunting ground where they could replicate the 2-0 win over the Porcupine Warriors last season.

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum's strategy to limit Olympics' attacking opportunities seemed effective, and the defensive efforts from both teams prevented any goals from being scored.

Notable players such as Richmond Lamptey, who was influential in their game against Hearts, and Steven Mukwala, who scored a brace for Kotoko last Sunday, made attempts in the first half, but the Olympics goalkeeper managed to keep a clean sheet.

The tension in the game was evidenced by the number of yellow cards shown for foul play, including Justice Blay, who was booked for a foul play in the 50th minute.

Olympics also made some incursions into the goal area of Kotoko, but the visitors defended very well to deny them any goal.

After recess, both sides increased the pressure in search of goal but often their efforts were thwarted by the defence and sometimes the goalkeeper came to their rescue.

There were near misses from both teams, such as Enoch Morrison's effort for Kotoko that narrowly missed the target and Olympics' missed opportunity from a freekick, added to the drama of the encounter.

Both teams huffed and puffed in search of the winning goal, but it never came much to the disappointment of their fans.
