Osumanu ready to defend WBO Africa title against Nigerian opponent
The stage is set for a thrilling night of boxing in Ghana as WBO Africa heavyweight champion, Haruna Osumanu, prepares to defend his title against Nigerian challenger, Iddris Affini.
The two fighters successfully made weight yesterday at the Idrowhyt Event Centre in Dansoman, Accra, the same venue for tonight's fight show presented by Cabic Promotions.
Osumanu, who boasts a record of 15-3 with 10 knockouts, weighed in at 265.5 lbs, while Affini, with a record of 15-7-2 and 12 knockouts, came in at 215.7 lbs. This will be a rematch of their clash in December 2023, which Osumanu won on points after the fight was stopped in round six due to a cut under his left eye caused by an accidental head clash.
Affini is determined to take the title back to Nigeria, saying, "It's very difficult to get second chances in life, so I'm excited and grateful for this opportunity. I have prepared well, and I promise to beat Haruna and take the title back to Nigeria."
However, Osumanu remains confident and unfazed, assuring Ghanaians of a resounding victory. "No way this title is going to Nigeria; it's staying right here. I don't want to talk much; I prefer to do my talking in the ring. I'm appealing to Ghanaians to come in their numbers to support me because we are winning to move up to the next level," he said.
Tonight's fight show will also feature a host of budding stars, including WBO Africa bantamweight champion, Daniel Selassie Gorsh, alias The Emperor, who takes on veteran Isaac Nettey in a 10-round contest. Other exciting matchups include Olympic medallist Samuel 'Ring Warrior' Takyi versus Komlangan Hounkpatin of Togo in an international lightweight contest, as well as Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey against Jonathan Agbeviade and Abu Kamoko, alias Tilapia, taking on veteran Kwesi Tutu in a light heavyweight clash.
Former Ghana and West Africa champion, Delali Miledzi, will also seek to up his stakes for a continental belt against Naimou Aziz Samson of Benin, while recent WBO Africa super middleweight challenger, Mubarak Abubakar, seeks to bounce back against Thomas Okaidjah.
The fight show promises to be an exciting night of boxing, and fans are urged to come out in their numbers to support the Ghanaian boxers.
