Paris 2024 Olympics: Japan take lead on medal table, France in second position

Team Japan has accumulated a total of 12 medals, consisting six gold, two silver and four bronze as of Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

The Japanese garnered the six gold medals in skateboarding (2), judo (2), fencing (1) and artistic gymnastics (1) before adding the rest from other sporting disciplines.

Japan staged an improbable comeback to win men's gymnastics team gold on Monday, July 29 at the Games.

The squad tallied a 259.594 for gold, followed by the People's Republic of China, which earned 259.062. The United States took the bronze in compelling fashion and a score of 257.793.

Japanese 14-year-old Coco Yoshizawa also won gold in the women’s street skateboard in an all-teenage final.

Fellow Japanese contender Liz Akama took silver with Brazilian Rayssa Leal collecting bronze at Place de La Concorde on Sunday.

Host nation France are in second place on the table with five gold, eight silver and three bronze totaling 16 medals followed by china with five gold, five silver and two bronze.

There are 329 gold medal events at Paris 2024 with a whopping 39 medals being won on the penultimate day of the competition on Saturday, August 10.
