Pogba eyes Monaco return following doping ban
Former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is in advanced talks with AS Monaco as he targets a return to professional football following a doping suspension.
The 32-year-old French World Cup winner is edging closer to a homecoming with the Ligue 1 side, with BBC Sport reporting that discussions are centred around a potential two-year contract. Monaco are hopeful of finalizing the deal in the coming days.
Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks, with Pogba already training ahead of pre-season as he prepares for his return to competitive action.
Pogba was provisionally suspended after a random drug test following Juventus' opening game of the 2023–24 season against Udinese. He was initially handed a four-year ban, but it was reduced to 18 months in October after a successful appeal.
In November, Pogba mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Juventus and has been eligible to resume his career since March.
According to the final ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Pogba had inadvertently taken DHEA—a substance that boosts testosterone and is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Notably, the court found that DHEA has performance-enhancing effects only in females.
