Prince William’s polo pal dies ‘after swallowing bee’ during match

Prince William's polo friend has died after reportedly swallowing a bee during a match - triggering a fatal heart attack, it is claimed.

Indian-born billionaire Sunjay Kapur, 53, collapsed during the match at Guards Polo Club in Windsor yesterday - hours after he'd paid tribute online to the victims of the Air India tragedy.

Sources told Indian media the bee stung Kapur in his mouth before he suffered anaphylactic shock that caused his heart to stop.

He is understood to have requested the match be halted and then fell to the ground.

Medical experts say internal stings can prove deadly, particularly if a person has an undiagnosed allergy.

Kapur's exact cause of death is still being investigated.

A well-known figure on the polo circuit in the UK and India, the late industrialist rubbed shoulders with the royals, including the Prince of Wales.

Kapur was the chairman of global car parts giant Sona Comstar.

In a statement, the company said: “We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of our Chairman, Mr Sunjay Kapur.

"He was a visionary leader whose passion, insight and dedication shaped the identity and success of our company.”

He was previously married to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, who had previously recalled him playing polo with William.

The former couple had two children together - daughter Samaira and son Kiaan.

Educated at The Doon School, India’s answer to Eton, Kapur later studied business at the University of Buckingham, before completing a prestigious executive programme at Harvard Business School.

Under his leadership, Sona Comstar became a key supplier to the booming electric vehicle sector with operations spanning India, the US, Serbia, Mexico and China.

After his separation from Karisma, Kapur married Priya Sachdev, a former model and fashion entrepreneur.

In his tribute following the air disaster, Kapur wrote on X: "Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad.

"My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour."
