Five policemen seen in videos misconducting themselves interdicted by IGP

Five police personnel seen a video shared on social media misconducting themselves have been interdicted by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

A police statement issued on the development named them as Chief Inspector Matthew Blay, Chief Inspector Francis Arthur and Inspector Eric Osei, all from the Osu Police Station in Accra.

The others are Sergeant Amos Dery of the National Protection Unit and Inspector Joseph Okyere Asabre of the Obuasi Police District.

According to the police, the said personnel have been handed over to the Police Professional Standards Bureau for investigation in line with internal disciplinary procedures.

One of the videos, parts of which appear in images released by the Police Service, shows a police officer allegedly collecting money from suspected illegal miners at Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region.

The Police did not state which of the interdicted officers are captured in the footage.

The statement did not describe the full content of the videos or provide further details of the conduct captured, beyond stating that the acts were likely to damage the image of the Service.

The Police Service said it would take the necessary action after the investigations are completed.
