Kumasi Ridge enclave set for four-day transformer upgrade from May 6-9
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that the Kumasi Ridge Substation will undergo a transformer upgrade from Wednesday, May 6 to Saturday, May 9, 2026, as part of the government's Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme.
The initiative forms part of ECG's ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve service delivery, following the successful completion of similar projects at Adenta, Nmai Dzorm, Lashibi, and Teshie-Nungua Primary Substations.
The programme aims to improve power supply reliability and reduce system overloads within the network.
Upgrade details
As part of the project, ECG will upgrade an existing 20/26MVA power transformer to a higher-capacity 30/39MVA unit at the Kumasi Ridge Substation. The upgrade is scheduled to take place over four days.
To ensure the safe execution of the works, there will be phased and scheduled power interruptions within the Kumasi Ridge catchment area. Each affected group is expected to experience outages lasting approximately six hours, depending on the work schedule.
Expected benefits
The upgrade is expected to increase power supply capacity in the Kumasi Ridge area, reduce system overloads and equipment failures, minimise the frequency and duration of outages, and improve voltage stability and overall service reliability.
ECG acknowledged the inconvenience these temporary interruptions may cause and assured customers that the exercise is necessary to achieve long-term improvements in electricity supply.
"ECG remains committed to strengthening Ghana's power distribution network through sustained investment in infrastructure and proactive maintenance in support of national development," the statement read.
Detailed outage schedules will be shared through ECG's official communication channels.
