Gov't spokesperson on why 4 linked to PDS were arrested last week by BNI
The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has announced that four individuals linked to defunct Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited were last were last week arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) in relation to ongoing investigations into the transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
In a statement posted on X on Monday, May 4, 2026, Mr Kwakye Ofosu named the individuals arrested as Philip Ayensu, Viraj Phat, Sophia Korkor, and Justice Menka-Premoh.
According to the minister, all four suspects have since been granted bail while investigations continue.
The probe is linked to financial transactions involving funds suspected to belong to ECG, Ghana’s state-owned power distributor.
"The Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) arrested the following persons affiliated to PDS last week as part of investigations into the transfer of large sums of money believed to belong to ECG."
"The quartet have since been given bail pending further investigations," the minister's post read.
PDS Ghana Limited, the company at the centre of the investigation, was a private consortium that took over ECG’s electricity distribution operations on March 1, 2019, under a concession agreement.

However, the arrangement was terminated just months later after the government cited concerns over fraudulent financial guarantees.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into the matter, focusing on the movement and possible misappropriation of the funds.
