Boakye arrives with an impressive record, having netted nine goals and contributed six assists in the Austrian topflight last season. His signing marks the club's fourth addition in the current transfer window, following the arrivals of Yunis Abdelhamid, Ben Old, and Zuriko Davitashvili.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Boakye said, "Joining AS Saint-Étienne to discover the French championship is a source of pride. Ligue 1 is a championship that I have always followed and ASSE is an emblematic club. I was able to talk with my friend, Lucas Gourna, who told me a lot of good things about it! I can't wait to discover this great club from the inside and meet its many supporters!"
Boakye is expected to make his debut in Saint-Étienne's pre-season opener against Clermont on July 20.
Augustine Boakye: A rising star
Hailing from Bompata, central Ghana, Augustine Boakye's journey began at the renowned West African Football Academy (WAFA). This academy has produced several notable talents, including Mohammed Salisu of AS Monaco and Gideon Mensah of AJ Auxerre.
Boakye's stellar performances at WAFA SC in the Ghanaian Premier League earned him a move to Europe in 2021, joining Wolfsberger AC in the Austrian Bundesliga. Despite starting with the reserve team, his determination saw him break into the first team, where he truly shone in the 2023-2024 season with ten goals and seven assists in 26 appearances.
Known for his versatility and skill, Boakye is poised to be a valuable asset under the guidance of Saint-Étienne's manager, Olivier Dall'Oglio, as the club aims to secure its place in Ligue 1 following their recent promotion.
