Semenyo beats Haaland, Van Dijk to claim Premier League Player of the Month award

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has been voted the Premier League Player of the Month for February after an impressive run of performances that helped power Manchester City through an unbeaten spell in the English top flight.

The 25-year-old attacker enjoyed a productive first full month with the club, scoring three goals and providing one assist in five league matches during February.

“This is a brilliant moment for me. To win the Premier League Player of the Month award so soon after joining City is something I’ll never forget,” he said.

The Ghana international credited the support he has received since arriving at the club for helping him quickly settle into his new environment.

“It’s been such an amazing start to life at this club. I am learning so much every day and I honestly feel I am already a better player,” he said.

“I have been made to feel welcome from day one, which means I have been able to stay focused on the pitch and do my best.”

Semenyo’s first goal of the month came in a 2-2 draw away to Tottenham Hotspur, where he finished clinically with his left foot. He then produced an instinctive strike and also set up a teammate during a commanding 3-0 victory over Fulham.

He capped the month with a poacher’s finish that secured a narrow but vital win over Leeds United, further boosting City’s title ambitions.

The strong performances have contributed to Manchester City’s run of seven unbeaten matches in the league and lifted Semenyo’s tally to 15 goals in the competition this season.

Only Erling Haaland, with 22 goals, and Igor Thiago of Brentford, with 18, have scored more in the Premier League so far this campaign.

Semenyo becomes the second Manchester City player to win the monthly award this season, following Haaland’s triumph in September.

He secured the prize ahead of several high-profile nominees, including Viktor Gyokeres, Dango Ouattara, Benjamin Sesko, Virgil van Dijk and teammate Nico O’Reilly.

Looking ahead to the closing stages of the season, the Ghanaian forward said his focus remains on improving his performances and helping the club finish strongly.

“My focus now is on continuing to improve and helping City to achieve the best possible results. We have so much to play for and I am really excited about this final period of the season.”
